Counseling Services

The mission of the Counseling Department at Santa Rosa Junior College is to provide counseling, instruction, and services that assist individuals in attaining their educational, career training, and personal/life goals. The Counseling Department promotes and supports diversity of culture and learning, and, as an integral part of the educational community, seeks to enhance the lives of those who participate through its programs and enroll in our courses.

Counselors are available on a drop-in and appointment (when available) basis both in person and by phone or Zoom. We will develop long-term academic plans, determine progress toward or eligibility for transfer and/or graduation, handle probation or dismissal issues, or assist in completing petitions, etc.

Drop-in is first come, first served with the counselor available at that time. Students can request specific counselors.

Due to a large number of students, there are certain times of the academic year when counseling is busy. We usually see an increase in traffic and wait times in January and August before school starts for the next semester, as well as April and November before priority registration. During this high peak time, the wait may be one to two hours.  To avoid the wait, come see a Counselor during our non-peak times: February through end of March and September through end of October.  Visit our website for most up to date information: https://counseling.santarosa.edu/

To avoid the lengthy wait and rushed atmosphere, students should plan ahead and earn Early Bird Priority 3 registration. To plan for the next semester, be sure to see a Counselor during their non-peak times to receive Early Bird priority before the deadline to do so.  More information can be found on the Early Bird deadline, as well as priority registration status, by visiting the Academic Calendar webpage: https://admissions.santarosa.edu/academic-calendar.

Academic Counseling

Counselors help students clarify their goals and provide accurate and timely information about Career Technical Education programs and transfer and degree requirements. New students are strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor to create an Education Plan. Continuing students should continue to meet with a counselor at regular intervals to evaluate and adjust their Education Plan. While creating an Education Plan, students and counselors will consider educational options together, review requirements, and select appropriate courses and/or options.

Career Counseling

Counselors also assist students in the career planning process. This may include exploring interests, values, and goals; researching and reviewing career options; planning appropriate courses to achieve goals; and referring to services, resources, and career development courses. To make an appointment with a Career Counselor, visit the Career Hub’s website at: https://careerhub.santarosa.edu/ or call the Career Hub office at  707-527-4329.

Personal Counseling

Counselors can assist students in exploring personal concerns and life circumstances that may be affecting academic performance. Counselors will refer students to Student Psychological Services in Student Health Services for ongoing personal counseling or to intervene in crisis situations.
